Can you help me sew my first quilt?

I've been sewing clothes for awhile now. I'd say that I'm at an intermediate skill level. Now I want to sew a quilt! Can you recommend your favorite quilting books (for beginners of course) and some websites with free quilt patterns & advice? I just have a basic sewing machine but I believe it's possible to sew a quilt with it, correct? Thanks for the input! :D
