Question on Tradition of the church?

This question is on Catholicism "tradition" which is of men, it allows for broad view of scripture according to the Holy See only, what they say goes. Do you think it parallels the Pharisees of Jesus' time? They had all sorts of tradition they followed, and no-one but the high priests were allowed to interpret the Torah. They enacted law after law (much like the canon law) so that the follower could never attain righteousness, which was not from God, but from men. An example would be excommunication, why in the world would the Catholic church excommunicate a Christian who questions the umption and Immaculate Conception stories for example for being unbiblical? Does it sound like the Pharisees to anyone?
