There's an old saying that has fallen into obscurity. "Cut a covenant". When you see a groundbreaking or the opening of a new business and they cut a red ribbon, this is also a traditional carry-over from the days when they used to cut, an animal in half. The two parties to the covenant would then walk in between the two pieces to seal the deal. The heart of the new covenant was the shedding of Jesus' blood on the cross, but to seal the deal or 'walk our talk', we have to keep the ten commandments.
